Event Will Celebrate 15 Years of Le Mans-Inspired Road Racing
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will kick off the 2013 race season with the American Le Mans Monterey May 9-11. Last year’s champions and Northern California based team Muscle Milk Racing will return to defend their title against challengers and 2011 champs, Dyson Racing.
The main race, scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m., features four hours of thrilling sports car racing that takes drivers from daylight into dusk by pushing their mental and physical abilities to the limit in non-stop action. Famous makes like Aston Martin, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Mazda and Porsche will go wheel-to-wheel for top honors.
In its fifteenth and final season before it melds with the GRAND-AM race series, the American Le Mans Series features multiple classes of high-tech sports cars competing simultaneously. The race-within-a-race format provides constant passing, daring moves and excitement as cars of differing speeds race to the checkered flag.
Support races will include the Mazda MX-5 Cup, Simraceway Formula 3 West Coast Series, Cooper Tires Prototype Lites powered by Mazda and the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.
All event weekends at Mazda Raceway are family friendly and American Le Mans may be the best for fans of all ages with an open race paddock providing unequaled access to teams and drivers. There’s so much to see and do such as autograph sessions, team chats, tech briefings, the popular pre-race grid walks and a Yamaha Marketplace full of a myriad of vendors.
American Le Mans Monterey general admission starts at $30, with a three day general admission pass only $70 with advance purchase and children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. There is free onsite parking and VIP parking available for $30. Hospitality options start at $250 per person.
