Monterey’s Classic Car Week Starts Tonight on Historic Fisherman’s Wharf

Monterey’s historic Fisherman’s Wharf will set the stage for the kick off of Classic Car Week with the Monterey Motorsports Reunion Classic, presented by Jaguar, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Fisherman’s Wharf Association.

The race car show will be held Friday, August 12 from 5-7 p.m. and is free to the public. The evening includes 20 historic race and sports cars that will be competing in the Pre-Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, live music and a raffle featuring prizes from the raceway and wharf businesses. Race fans will also be able to purchase tickets to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, August 19-21.

“This week is internationally-acclaimed among car enthusiasts,” said Barry Toepke, vice president of historic racing for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “We wanted to create a fun event that would allow locals and visitors alike, a glimpse of these remarkable vehicles and get everyone excited about the week ahead.”

Some of the cars participating in the Fisherman’s Wharf event include: 1954 Jaguar XK120, 1956 Jaguar D-Type, 1956 Alfa Romeo Spider and 1969 Boss 302 Trans Am Mustang. These non-legal street cars will arrive under police escort from Mazda Raceway for the show.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion features more than 550 of the finest examples of automotive history, style, design and technology that, for its 37th year, will fill the race paddock at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Each car accepted has its own interesting history, which owners enthusiastically share with fans as they wander through the open race paddock. A strict set of selection criteria ensures each car is period correct and is authentic with proven race provenance. Equally important is that the car has not been mechanically altered from its original race condition.
