2009's Fan Activities included:
Before this year's Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix competitors take to the track, some Yamaha Grand Prix legends will gather for a clash of the titans. Kenny Roberts Sr., Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, and Valentino Rossi line up for a Superkarts showdown on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. making the first time all four world champions have the opportunity to be on-track together. Superkarts, built to race on full-size road courses, are powered by Yamaha TZ250 engines and are capable of incredible cornering speeds and acceleration. Something tells us Roberts and Rossi will get up to speed quickly, but Rainey and Lawson may have an advantage since both have previous Superkart experience. In fact, Lawson has muscled a Superkart around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to a lap time only two and a half seconds slower than Casey Stoner's fastest '08 race lap!
The event is free and the paddock is open to fans after 1:00 p.m. on July 2.
Riders for Health is an International charity that uses motorcycles to save lives in Africa. They are working to make sure all health workers in Africa have access to reliable transportation so they can reach the most isolated people with regular and predictable health care.
A live auction of MotoGP memorabilia is held on Thursday evening at the Turn 4 paddock suites from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. This is a unique opportunity for the fans to meet MotoGP riders, purchase autographed memorabilia, and support a great cause. Admission to the auction is FREE! Tell your friends!
Instead of heading back to the hotel or campsite after Friday's practice session, we'd advise making your way over to the Parts Unlimited Hospitality Chalet at Turn 5 for the MotoGP Fan Party from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. The fun starts as soon as you walk through the door as door prizes include Parts Unlimited gear, Axio backpacks, accommodations at a local waterfront hotel, K&N intakes, GoKart Racer gift certificates, and more. Watch for appearances from some of your favorite riders, as well as the lovely Miss Mazda Raceway girls, and visit with fellow fans.
Ducati is as passionate about its fans as the Ducatisti are about their brand, and the OEM proves it every year at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix via Ducati Island, which features Ducati-only parking, Ducati fashion shows, Ducati performance apparel, and more. To access the incredible parking and hospitality areas, Ducati owners must show their current registration or proof of insurance, but the rest of the Island is open to all. For the techies out there, a Wyotech Garage area highlights the inner workings of Ducati motorcycles through an interactive demonstration by a Ducati-certified mechanic; for fans of the marque's riders, both Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner will appear to sign autographs, along with AMA Team Ducati rider Larry Pegram. Also watch for the Ducati track walk on Friday, July 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., during which Pegram will narrate a tour of the famous circuit- Corkscrew included, naturally.
